Design & Material Process
Crafted on a 25 momme white Lo silk base, this fabric features a denser structure while preserving the characteristic openness of traditional Lo weaving. Butterfly and floral motifs are formed directly through the jacquard weave, allowing the pattern to emerge naturally from the fabric’s structure rather than surface printing.
Through repeated botanical dyeing, river mud application, and cycles of sun-drying, the textile gradually develops its signature appearance. The face reveals a deep, luminous black with restrained sheen, while the reverse transitions into a warm, copper-toned brown.
Compared to lighter Lo fabrics, the increased momme weight enhances stability and body, offering greater structural presence while maintaining the fluid qualities inherent to silk.
Texture & Performance
With a more substantial handfeel than lighter Lo weaves, this fabric balances strength and movement. The openwork structure continues to support airflow, ensuring breathability, while the added weight provides improved drape control and durability.
The botanical dyeing process, derived from plant-based materials, also contributes to the fabric’s natural resistance to odor buildup over time.
Natural Characteristics
As a fully plant- and mud-dyed textile with no chemical fixatives, slight color release may occur during the first few washes.
Due to the hand-applied river mud process, areas of uneven tone, darker shading, or localized seepage may appear on the brown reverse. These are natural results of traditional craftsmanship and should not be considered defects.
Each piece carries subtle variations in tone, sheen, and texture, reflecting the material’s handmade origin.
