About SonguSilk

A Material Shaped by Nature and Time

Songu Silk is a textile studio dedicated to naturally dyed silk fabrics.

We believe that fabric is not simply made —
it is shaped through nature, time, and human patience.

In a world driven by speed, trends, and constant renewal, we choose a different rhythm.

A return to nature. A return to calm. A return to a more honest and comfortable sense of self.

Our Manifesto

Songu Silk is not worn for attention.
It is worn for alignment.

We believe fabric carries memory. Songu Silk is not seasonal. It is not trend-driven.

It is made slowly, touched by earth, washed by water, warmed by the sun, moved by wind, and completed by time.

Wearing it is not about decoration,
but about returning —

to nature, to rhythm, to yourself.

For every client, we carefully seek fabrics shaped by nature and time,
believing that the right material carries its own rhythm and meaning.

Why Gambiered Silk(XiangYunSha)

Gambiered Silk(XiangYunSha) is one of the few silk fabrics in the world that cannot be produced in haste.

Its color is not applied in a single step, but gradually formed through repeated processes of plant-based dyeing, river-mud treatment, and sun exposure.

We chose Gambiered Silk(XiangYunSha) not out of convenience, but because it represents a way of making that respects nature, embraces variation, and regards time as an essential material.

In addition to its natural insect-repellent qualities, the black surface formed through river-mud treatment becomes progressively softer and more luminous over time. It values waiting over efficiency, and depth over surface perfection.

We consider this transformation a gift from nature.

Why We Work with a Single Color

Gambiered Silk(XiangYunSha) was originally born under sunlight,
where river mud oxidation naturally produced a deep brown-black tone.
This was the fabric’s original and most honest color.

Today, many Gambiered Silk(XiangYunSha) fabrics are sprayed with additional colors,
or patterned on white silk before dyeing,
resulting in brightly colored and decorative variations.

However, we believe that the use of chemical pigments
deviates from the original intention of Gambiered Silk.

By working only with its natural tone,
we remain faithful to the material, the process, and the philosophy behind this heritage craft.
depending on weather and seasonal variation.

How We Work

The unique river mud required for Gambiered Silk(XiangYunSha), along with the skilled artisans who understand its behavior, exist only in one specific town.

We work closely with these experienced craftspeople, allowing each stage to respond to weather, material conditions, and the natural behavior of silk itself.

For our clients, we make every effort within this town to find fabrics that best match their needs— whether in pattern, softness, or overall character.

Before You Order

Because of the nature of our materials and processes, we encourage our clients to contact us before placing an order.

This allows us to understand your intended use, design needs, and preferences,
and to help you select the most suitable fabric— whether from existing stock or through custom sourcing.

We believe the right fabric begins with conversation.
