Design & Material Process
This fabric is developed on a 40 momme white jacquard satin silk base, from which the peony motif emerges naturally through the weave, presenting a composition that feels both dignified and restrained.
The satin structure preserves the inherent luster of silk, allowing the surface to reflect light with a refined sheen.
Through repeated cycles of botanical dyeing, hand-applied river mud coating, and sun drying, the textile gradually develops its signature visual depth. The front surface evolves into a deep, understated black with a subtle oily glow visible under sunlight and artificial light, while the reverse slowly transforms into a warm, earthy brown tone.
The higher momme weight gives the fabric a sense of substance and drape, resulting in a full-bodied handfeel with graceful fluidity.
Texture & Performance
The fabric feels substantial yet smooth and soft, maintaining excellent drape and flexibility. Its heavier weight results in moderate breathability, while the satin finish enhances its visual richness and formal presence.
Botanical dyes derived from natural plant sources also contribute to reduced odor retention over time during wear
Natural Characteristics
As a fully plant- and mud-dyed textile with no chemical fixatives, slight color release may occur during the first few washes.
The black-facing surface is finished through river mud application; subtle shadowing may occasionally appear on the brown reverse. These characteristics are inherent to the traditional process and should not be considered defects.
Each piece carries slight variations in tone and texture, reflecting its handcrafted nature.
Care Instructions
– Rinse gently with clean water only
– Do not use detergents or chemical cleaners
– Avoid prolonged soaking
– Air dry in shade
With proper care, the fabric will continue to develop depth and character over time.
